Your half bath may be the smallest room in your home, but it can pack the biggest design punch with a simple half bath update. Whether it’s for guests or part of your daily routine, this space deserves a little love. And the best part? You don’t need a full renovation to make a major impact. With strategic updates—like soothing sage greens, bold floral wallpaper, and elegant gold hardware—you can give your powder room a fresh, stylish facelift without the stress of demo days.
Coming from a home with one tiny bathroom, I was so indescribably excited to have more than one toilet in the house, but also to have a little powder room that we can add some personality to without it being a big commitment. Dark colors, gold accents, and something I've always wanted to do - floral wallpaper!
Let's start with the hardware: the smallest changes with one of the biggest impacts. These little glimmers throughout the room immediately elevate the vibe of the bathroom and give purpose to the overall aesthetic. Here are the pieces we chose:
Like I said before, a simple hardware update can make a big difference - especially in a small space. The existing hardware in the half bath was a little outdated, a little bleh. The first update was the vanity light fixture which we found on Amazon here. It's giving vintage, it's giving high end, but at an affordable price.
Next up was the faucet on the vanity. I've been dreaming of a bold bathroom for some time now and my Pinterest is FULL of ideas, but I wanted something classic, vintage, and full of charm that wasn't too modern or trendy and would go out of style quickly. This antique brass faucet on Amazon is literally what dreams are made of (at least mine anyways). The vintage knobs and curve of the spout just add tiny details that might otherwise go unnoticed, but make all the difference.
Clearly we're on a crystal and gold kick right now, and the existing vanity in the bathroom has four knobs to the drawers and cabinet, so to match both the vanity light fixture and the faucet, I went with these 1-1/4 inch crystal and gold knobs on Amazon. The vanity cabinet was already white, which we kept (for now) and the existing sink has a tiny terracotta-like pattern to it with neutral colors like ivory and brown, which compliments the gold well and adds a little bit of texture and warmth. I honestly don't know that I would pick this sink myself, but for now we're building the vibe and colors around it and embracing what we have!
To tie it all together, we found a really simple brushed gold towel and toilet paper hanger set on Amazon to replace the brushed nickel pieces that were previously hanging.

Paint & Wallpaper:
Sage green is a design favorite for a reason—it’s calm, organic, and incredibly versatile. In a half bath, where space is limited, this soft green can add depth without feeling heavy.
Tips:
Paint the walls or vanity: If you’re not ready for wallpaper, a simple coat of sage green on the walls or vanity cabinet can instantly refresh the space.
Balance with neutrals: Pair sage with white trim, light wood tones, or even soft beige for a grounded, spa-like vibe.
Sample first: Half baths often have odd lighting (hello, no windows), so always test paint swatches before committing.
I knew I wanted to add something a little funky being that it was such a small space, so I hunted for the perfect wallpaper to go on the back wall behind the toilet. It had to have our gray, sagey green and I also wanted something with a little color to accent different decor and details we would add in later. I fell in love with this Gardenia and Sage wallpaper from Lowe's and it's peel and stick so if and when our tastes change, we can easily remove it.
Tips for Wallpaper:
Choose peel-and-stick options for easy application and future removal (especially great for renters).
Try an accent wall behind the vanity or toilet if full-wall coverage feels overwhelming.
Look for prints that complement your green tones, like botanical motifs or soft vintage florals.
A few final thoughts...
Half baths are often short on square footage, but smart styling can make them feel more functional and thoughtful. We have a walnut wood shelf installed above the toilet to hold decor and complimentary pieces that we scored at an estate sale. In such a small space, floating shelves are great for adding personality to the room without overcrowding it.
Simple space-savvy upgrades:
Install a small shelf above the toilet for décor or guest hand towels.
Use baskets or trays on the vanity for organizing soap, lotions, and room spray.
Add a compact plant (like a pothos or dried eucalyptus) for a pop of life and texture.
